The Legend of the Pied Piper...

... is one of the main themes in the museum. It tells of the events in 1284 in Hameln, which fascinates and attracts flocks of people from all over the world today.

The systematic collection of documents and reports of the legend of the Pied Piper only began in 1934:

Early hand-written and printed accounts concerning the legend include reports in chronicles, miracle-books, travelling descriptions and diaries. The theme has also been conveyed by literary and musical means: novellas, novels, poems, plays, picture books, songs, operas and musicals. Industries also market their products using the legend.
