Hameln Silver

image comment: Kramer Willkomm

The most outstanding item in this collection is the so-called "Kramer Welcome", a partly-gilded silver goblet which holds four litres of liquid, made for the businessman’s guild in Hameln in 1637 by the silversmith Johann Krecke (see picture). The surface is decorated with the Chairman of the Guild’s hallmark and date stamp. This cup is a highly valuable artefact of the town’s history.

When Kaiser Wilhelm II visited Hameln in 1904 his welcoming drink was taken from this cup; an extra picture on the wall reminds us of this event.
Of course, that isn’t the only thing worth seeing!
