This futuristically-orientated district was built in accordance with the latest architectural knowledge focusing on families, children and the environment.
The second officially registered EXPO-project in Hameln was the Jugendwerkstatt Hameln, a workshop for young people run in association with the Lutheran church.
With reference to EXPO 2000 important measures to improve the infrastructure in Hameln had been completed. These measures include the reconstruction of the railway station forecourt to include a new car park and a multiplex cinema and the construction of a footbridge linking the old town with the Werder, a small island on the Weser. In time for the start of EXPO 2000 the Weserbergland Information Centre, funded by the tourist organisations of the region, was opened. Hameln offered an accompanying tourism and culture programme for visitors to EXPO 2000 who stayed overnight in the town, as well as for all other visitors.
The Hameln-Pyrmont district has been the location for three further world-wide EXPO projects:
- solar village on the Ohrberg
- Aqua Bad Pyrmont
- "The future of work in the field between humankind, nature, technology and the market using the case of Wilkhahn as an example."
As part of EXPO 2000 Hameln took part in the regional exhibition and has therefore used the opportunity to be in the front row in Hanover: in the "Global House" next door to the German Pavillion and the EXPO-Plaza. Of course, the Pied Piper himself has also often made the short journey to the exhibition.
