Saint-Maur-des-Fossés with 80.000 inhabitants is situated in the middle of the Ile-de-France region 14 kilometres southeast of Paris. Seven different villages which existed until the 19th century (Adamville, Le Parc, La Varenne, Saint-Maur-Créteil, Champignol, La Pie, le Vieux Saint- Maur, les Mûriers) now form today's town of Saint-Maur-des-Fossés whereby the individual character of these villages has been deliberately retained. Numerous gardens, historical buildings and quiet areas as well as the charming promenade along the river Marne form a peaceful contrast to the nearby hectic metropolis and make Saint-Maur an oasis of peace in the Paris region.
