Torquay is often called 'The Queen of the English Riviera'. Its origins as a holiday resort date back to Victorian times when it was a fashionable destination for the English aristocracy and middle classes. Today the legacy remains with clean white villas, beautiful gardens and elegant buildings. Torquay also inspired one of the world's greatest mystery writers, Agatha Christie, who was born here in 1890.

Paignton is a resort packed with fun and ideal for families. It has its own long, sandy beach, a pier, harbour, theatre and many family attractions in and around the town. At night Paignton's seafront comes alive with illuminations and is perfect for an evening stroll.

Brixham, being a real contrast to Torquay and Paignton, is a pretty, working fishing port full of character and atmosphere. The focal point of life here is the harbour where the daily catch is landed and pleasure boats take visitors on trips around the Bay.

The English Riviera is well known for its palm trees, but large numbers of exotic plants also thrive in its mild climate influenced by the Golf Stream. Its superb location makes The English Riviera unbeatable for watersports. Windsurfing, sailing and water skiing are all popular activities in Tor Bay and for yachting enthusiasts there are well equipped marinas at Torquay and Brixham.
The English Riviera is an ideal base for exploring the delights of South Devon. Within a one hour drive are the historic cities of Exeter and Plymouth and Dartmoor National Park 450 sq. km of stunning countryside rising to over 500 metres in places.
