Welcome to Hameln´s Public Forest

With 1,300 hectares our Forest Department Hameln is not only one of the biggest municipal forest departments in Lower Saxony: In relative figures Hameln offers something special, too, with its 29 % woodland (Lower Saxony: only 21 %).

Enjoy a diversified forest!

You will find - recreation

The wood invites you with a network of paths for walking, hiking, jogging and biking.

The hilly landscape offers interesting paths and nice panoramic views.

image comment: spring snowflakes in Hameln
The nature protection area "Schweineberg" (170 hectares) probably has the biggest area of spring snowflakes (spring snowflake: Leucojum vernum) in northern Germany: 1.5 kilometres in length and 100 to 200 meter width on a hill of appr. 200 to 280 meters height. Partly the whole ground is covered with spring snowflakes in February and March.
Several pathes lead you through the area. Please do not leave the pathes and do not pick the plants or damage them.

How to get there

From Hameln you will reach the Schweineberg via Süntelstraße, Schillerstraße and Holtenser Landstraße (direction Unsen). Just before Holtensen turn right to the parking area.

Three restaurants are suitable for making an excursion: "Waldgaststätte Finkenborn" and "Restaurant Klütturm" (with a brillant panoramic view onto Hameln) are linked with a path that gives information on the forest.
The third restaurant in our forest, the "Heisenküche", is situated close to another path with information on the forest.
