Hameln and its idyllic surrounding villages are embedded in densely-wooded hills which make up the attractive Weserbergland region. The public forest takes up approx. 1,300 hectares (more information on the public forest).
The Klüt Tower, Süntel Tower and Bismarck Tower are popular destinations for hikers and bikers. The Rattenfängerpfad (Pied Piper’s path) is divided into three different stages for varied hiking routes.

image comment: blossoming of the snowflakes
A unique display of nature can be seen when the snowflakes (Leucojum Vernum) come into full blossom at Schweineberg in February and March.

The natural protection area "Schweineberg" (170 hectares) probably has the biggest area of snowflakes in northern Germany: 1.5 kilometres in length and 100 to 200 meter width on a hillside where the ground is nearly covered with "snowflakes".

image comment: rhododendron bushes at Ohrberg Park
The blossoming of the rhododendron bushes in the Ohrberg Park near Hameln in June is also worth seeing. The English park was first established in 1815 and is privately owned. Nevertheless the park is open to the public all year and visitors are welcome. From the park you have a nice view onto the river Weser and the surroundings.

image comment: Bürgergarten
In the "Bürgergarten" (Public Gardens) near the town hall you can admire a depiction of the Pied Piper and some fountains. No place in the centre of Hameln is as green and has as many colourful flowers as the Bürgergarten from spring to autumn!

The Werder Island is easy for pedestrians to reach, and there are leisure and relaxational opportunities on the island.
