Infocentre Building
Tourist Information Hameln Weserbergland
The new Tourist Information Offices were opened in May 2000 as the central point of contact for the Weser Mountains Region. Under the aspects of economy and ecology, this project brings the providers of touristic support under one roof, namely:
• Hameln Marketing und Tourismus GmbH
• Stadtmarketing- und Verkehrsverein Hameln e. V.
• Weserbergland Tourismus e. V.
• Flotte Weser GmbH & Co. KG
• Erlebniswelt Renaissance Projektentwicklung GmbH
• DEHOGA - Deutscher Hotel- und Gaststättenverband Kreisverband Hameln Stadt und Land
In addition to these offices, there is an information counter on the ground floor, a souvenir shop, and an amphitheater where a 10-minute film brings out the fascination of Hameln and the Weser Mountains Region.
In addition to the bundling of touristic organisations, the especially innovative energy concept is of central importance. The compactness of the building, the high insulation standards, the heat-pump ventilation, and the use of solar energy create a heating requirement of about 20% of that of a conventional building. This low requirement means that a conventional heating system is unnecessary. The ventilation system brings fresh air and maintains a minimum comfortable temperature.
An array of solar collector tubes creates warm water and assists in the heating of the building. Solar cells on the roof and awnings turn the environmentally friendly energy into electricity. Rainwater is reused, and finally, the roof is planted to complete the ecological concept.
The Infocenter is a futuristic example of an environmentally sound construction and an important milestone in Hameln's quest to be known as the
"Solar city of the North".
